There has been a lot of excitement about the recent photos taken by the Artemis II lunar exploration program – particularly those taken with the Nikon D5.
NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman used this high-performance, full-frame DSLR to take some amazing photographs of Earth lit up by moonlight.
A lot of observers failed to appreciate the full, fascinating story behind Reid’s image ‘Hello, World’, but not our eagle-eyed technical editor, Andy Westlake – read his insightful analysis here.
Although a decade old, the Nikon D5 was presumably chosen for its excellent low-light ISO performance and tough build, along with its many other virtues.
The camera has held its value well – and the Artemis II publicity will also help – but you can pick one up ‘used, in very good condition’ from Amazon for a competitive $2999. The used deal, from Ace Photo, is on the right of the page (pay just under 500 bucks more and you can get a new one).
Nikon D5 key features
