Wonder how the world’s oldest purpose-built photo studio looks on the inside? W.W. Winter in Derby welcomed its first customers in 1867 and has been in the business ever since. As a working portrait studio, they are not usually open to the public, but between 12 and 14 March, as part of the National Lottery Open Week, the studio will open its doors, and not just for customers.
With a Victorian daylight studio, a recreated framing room and an original retouching room alongside an extensive photography archive and a collection of historic cameras W.W. Winters is a photography lover’s dream visit. Don’t miss out on this opportunity as the studio doesn’t operate as a museum or list itself as a heritage site, so to gain access to a place that has such a rich history as Winters is absolutely rare.
As the studio is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Lottery players can visit free of charge. For more information, visit
