Sponsored. Making a living from photography is a goal many have. It is creative, personal work, and turning it into income can feel overwhelming when the digital side keeps changing, especially with new tools like AI.
This is where GoDaddy enters the picture and you can get on the road to commercial success without spending a fortune. That’s emphasised by the fact that around 25% of arts and design businesses using GoDaddy launched for under £500.

First, get a domain name
To start, if you don’t already have one, you need a domain name and you’re in good hands here, GoDaddy has the world’s largest domain name registrar. All you have to do is visit GoDaddy’s domain page here and type in your proposed name.
This might be something simple based on your name, i.e. jsmithphoto, or a relevant, memorable title that sums up what your photographic brand offers.
Hit ‘enter’ and you’ll be presented with an impressive list of available domains together with price and term deals.
In a quick test, our chosen name came up as a co.uk domain at £0.01 for the first year and £12.99 for the following two years in a three year term, but there were a great many more suggestions to consider. Adding your favourite domain suggestion to the cart brings up optional protection and custom email offers.
With your domain name sorted, it’s time to check out GoDaddy’s website options.
Intuitive website templates
A great starting point is GoDaddy’s extensive range of attractively designed website templates to suit a wide variety of interests including photography. There’s the option of three pricing schemes with the Basic plan at £7.99 a month for the first one-year term.
The Website builder option is just as simple to navigate with a series of simple questions to get started. Assuming you have the assets on your computer ready to upload you can populate the web template with your name, logo, images and sales stock very quickly without the need for IT skills.
At this point no money has changed hands and your website is free for seven days with premium features.
There are also three website building pricing plans starting at Basic for £16.99 a month but it’s worthwhile taking out an annual contract which saves 38%, so the monthly price drops to £7.99. The Basic plan is richly featured with website editing tools, SEO tools, basic marketing and time-saving AI writing.
Premium is the mid-package at £11.99 a month with an annual subscription while the top-of-the-line Commerce option is £26.99 a month which drops to £14.99 a month on an annual subscription. Here, you have all the features from the lower plans plus the ability to sell products and services, set up payment and delivery options and send out marketing emails to 100,000 users every month.
AI features, too
AI is big news in our lives and in photography it’s used in cameras and software to help everyone achieve more than ever before. At GoDaddy there’s Airo, its AI-powered experience which will save all users time, and it’ll be especially valuable to sole trader businesses.
Airo speeds up getting online, building website and brand assets, and makes marketing more efficient.
To take a real-world example, if your specialism is creative fine art monochrome photography and you’re struggling to think of a clever name for your shiny new website, just ask Airo.
In a few seconds, Airo’s suggestions included monomasterpieces.com, fineartmonoaesthetic.com and fineartcreative.com. There were some pricey options but these three came up at 1p for the first year of a three-year term.
