Matata Xplore’s AI-powered binoculars can identify birds plants and animals

A pair of AI-powered binoculars aimed at birdwatchers and wildlife observers was revealed last weekend at The Photography Show in Birmingham. After a generously supported Kickstarter campaign, Matata Xplore released the Solvia ED 8×32 PLUS and PRO.

There’s nothing worse than losing sight of a bird because you are fiddling with your field guide or phone, trying to identify them. So what happens if you cross binoculars with an imaging sensor and AI recognition software? An outdoor enthusiast’s dream. You can view, identify and photograph subjects all in one. There’s a dedicated AI button for identifying 10,000+ plants, birds and other animals, with a handy short summary of their characteristics.

There’s a 380mm equivalent lens and an 8MP 1.27″ sensor assisted by AI for low-light enhancement, deblurring stills and electronically stabilising videos. Review your images in the 2.8″ touchscreen or share them to your phone or tablet using Wi-Fi. Set the binoculars on a tripod and connect to the Solvia app for remote capture and shooting modes. At 560g, it is portable and offers up to 12hours of battery life.

The Solvia ED 8×32 – PLUS will be available for £429, while the PRO version, which includes an add-on that provides extra battery, high-accuracy GPS, e-compass, red/white light and a polarising filter, is £529. For more information, visit matataxplore.com.
