This is a collection which is sure to divide opinion.
These photographs of an out-of-focus London are an attempt by the art photographer Simon Roberts to show us very familiar scenes in a new and unnerving light.
They’re designed to help us imagine a future after the climate crisis, where the land is empty of people, and the landmarks take on an eerie quality, a relic of time past.
Or, you could simply say they’re blurry photographs of London landmarks – they’re certainly unusual and original. They won’t be to everybody’s tastes, but there is something quite striking about looking at them – after all, how many perfectly in-focus shots of Tower Bridge and the Shard does the world need, this offers something completely different.
All of them are gathered together in a new book from Hoxton Mini Press. The book itself is a thing of beauty to, with a cloth spine, foiling and the use of fine-art paper.
Simon Roberts is based in Brighton and is an internationally recognised art photographer, known primarily for his large-format tableaux images which examine the socio-political in Britain. He has been exhibited and published many times across the world.
